MURPHYSBORO -- Sikeston's wrestling team was beaten by Murphysboro on Tuesday 42-24.
"I'm proud of the way our team wrestled tonight," said Sikeston coach Chris Hodgkiss. "We came out and fought for every team point that we got. Murphysboro is a very solid team."
In the 103 class, Sikeston's Jeremy Freeman lost his first match of the year in an 11-6 decision to Aaron Richards. At 112, Sikeston's Cody Ryan was pinned by Zack Pittman in 1:59.
At 119, Sikeston's Adam Miller defeated Chad Rose 14-3.
Sikeston's Kyle Weeks beat Don Carraway 15-1 in the 125 class to remain undefeated on the season. At 130, Sikeston's Cleveland Anthony pinned Nathaniel Luster in 1:05.
At 135, Sikeston's Cody Weeks lost to Christian Rath 16-0. In the 140 division, Sikeston's Shay May was pinned by Colt Lee in 1:18.
At 145, Sikeston's Justin Keller won via forfeit. Sikeston's Scotty Keenan lost his first match of the year to Jerry Miner 11-4 in the 152 class. In the 160 division, Sikeston's Jackie Cowley pinned Jared Koberstein in 2:47. Murphysboro's Chris Jaynes won by forfeit in the 171 class.
At 189, Sikeston's Scott Heuiser lost to Clay Lance 11-4. In the 215 class, Sikeston's Stuart Carraway lost to Joe Youngberg 15-6, then Sikeston heavyweight Joe Johnson was pinned by Aaron Haiman in 1:13.
"I thought we wrestled with high intensity tonight," said Hodgkiss. "We had a lot of guys that fought out a hard win, or came back and lost by a minor decision instead of a major decision. Everybody fought really hard for those team points."
Sikeston is 2-2 in dual meets this season. The Bulldogs will compete in the Tiger Classic, which starts Friday.
Sikeston won the junior varsity match 48-36. Sikeston winners were Max Hanson (112), Josh Holmes (125), Travis Cummins (130), Daniel Klimmek (135), Tony Reynolds (145), Kirk Butler (152), Andy Croxford (189) and Kyle Rodgers (215).
