SIKESTON - A new State Trooper joined members of Troop E stationed in Sikeston Wednesday. He is Lloyd Murphy of Hillsboro in Jefferson County, who is a newcomer to the state patrol, but who has served three years as deputy sheriff in Jefferson County, where he was born and reared.

SIKESTON - To do their bit in helping the New March of Dimes campaign, Miss Cassandra Corlew and Miss Kacky Martin, two of the 120 Red Peppers who staged the very successful bread sale last Sunday, returned to William Paylor, chairman of the March of Dimes Drive, the money the Red Peppers collected.

POPLAR BLUFF - A pair of blowouts made the first two games in the Poplar Bluff Invitational Tuesday night a bit dull, but the finale between fourth-seeded New Madrid County Central and Caruthersville had enough excitement for three games. New Madrid County nipped the Tigers 70-68 in a hectic finish to earn the right to play top-seeded Kennett in Thursday night's semifinals.

SIKESTON - Lynn and Robert Dempster will be spotlighted at the eighth annual Friendly Roast by the Southeast Missouri Big Friends/Little Friends Inc., formerly Big Brothers/Big Sisters. The planning committee, comprised of Richard J. Menz, Terry Jackson, Addie Mae Jones and Craig Hahs, is putting together the final details for the roast set for 7 p.m. March 28 at the Sikeston Inn.
