DEXTER - Jerry L. Shipman, 81, died Dec. 12, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Born Feb. 3, 1020, in Dexter, son of the late John and Pearl Smith Shipman, he was a lifelong resident of Dexter. He was a retired truck driver and member of the First General Baptist Church of Dexter.

On Sept. 29, 1940, in Malden, he married Helen Stoker who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son, Jerry D. Shipman of Charleston, S.C.; two daughters, Janet F. Putnam of Dexter and Geraldine Comte of St. Louis; and nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Two brothers, Charles Eugene Shipman and James "Jack" Shipman, preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter where services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Kenneth Biggs of Dexter will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Hagy Cemetery.
