POPLAR BLUFF - Evelyn Shelby, 91, formerly of Bernie and Malden, died Dec. 10, 2001, at the Westwood Hills Care Center in Poplar Bluff.
Born Sept. 7, 1910, in Earle, Ky., to the late William Jackson and Mary Elizabeth Stanley Arnett, she was a member of the White Oak Grove General Baptist Church of rural Bernie.
On March 28, 1932, in Vienna, Ill., she married Homer T. Shelby who preceded her in death on Sept. 8, 1952.
Survivors include: four sons, Charles Chasteen Gilbert of Inglis, Fla., Arnett Junior Shelby of Salem, James Edward Shelby of Waterford, Mich., and Herman Dale Shelby of St. Louis; four daughters, Betty Jean Stiles of Salem, Carolyn Sue Porch of Poplar Bluff, Marilyn Ruth Scofi of Ellerslie, Ga., and Sharon Shelby McClure of Overland Park, Kan.; and 60 grandchildren, more than 35 great-grandchildren and more than 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by one son, Carl Robert Gilbert, five brothers and five sisters.
Services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. today at the Rainey Funeral Home in Bernie with the Rev. Vernon Cooper officiating.
Burial followed in the Bernie Cemetery.
