BERNIE - Emma W. Pounders, 96, died Feb. 19, 2002, at the Northshore Living Center at Slidell, La.

Born June 23, 1905, at Orange, Calif., to the late Donald S. and Serepta Deborah Place Welty, she was a member of the Bernie United Methodist Church. An elementary school teacher, she was a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Missouri and of PEO.

On May 8, 1927, at Hayti, she married William Prince Pounders, who preceded her in death on March 3, 1994.

Survivors include: one daughter, Patricia Pounders Baker of Slidell; four grandchildren, Bill Baker of Ramon, Calif., Carl Baker of Lansing, Mich., Brian Baker of Boca Raton, Fla., and Susie Baker Pitaky of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie where services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Susan Marner-Sides officiating.

Burial will follow in the Park Cemetery at Malden.
