SAY Team of the Day: Old Security

Friday, August 2, 2002

SIKESTON -- After a disappointing regular season in the American League, Old Security ended on a high note, taking second in the year-end tournament.

"We had to battle to get people there," said Old Security coach Roy Hodgkiss. "The ones that came played hard and really tried. We got off to a rough start, but we finished with a bang."

Old Security entered the tournament as the No. 5 seed. They lost in the championship game to the Elks.

Caleb Hodgkiss was the team's pitcher.

Gabe McClung played first base, Jorome Hatcher was on second, Kaili Lambert was at short, Andrew Stewart was at third and Eli Birdwell was behind the plate. The outfield consisted of Joshua Cooper, Dewayne Harris, Michael Epp and D.J. Barker. Lambert was a first team all-star and Hatcher was placed on the second team.

"I think the boys did a real good job this year," said Hodgkiss. "I really appreciated being their coach."
