Kids will have shaved ice

Friday, May 3, 2002

SIKESTON - Leslie and Robert King, owner-operators for The Yum-Yum Shack, have agreed to use designated areas for their shaved ice vending trailer at the sports complex and make donations to the non-profit organizations which support the leagues.

The Kings and city officials came to the agreement during Thursday's special council meeting.

According to city officials, there was concern from the not-for-profit groups licensed to sell concessions at the complex as their proceeds go toward supporting the sports leagues.

Councilman Mike Marshall said either a percentage of sales or a flat donation should smooth things over. "The kids want the shaved-ice," said Marshall.

Mayor Phil Boyer recommended a designated spot as the safety of the children is the biggest issue.

Leslie King said she would like to have the option to drive through and leave on days when no games are scheduled.
