Sikeston's golfers tame Kennett course

KENNETT - Sikeston's golf team traveled to Kennett on Tuesday and participated in a triangular match with Doniphan and Kennett.

The Bulldogs won with a score of 151, followed by Doniphan at 182 and Kennett at 182.

"I was proud of our team today," said Sikeston coach Rick Oetting. "Kennett is the type of course that can create havoc on a player. It's not a long course, but if you don't use your head, it'll add two strokes a hole to your game."

Junior Tanner Fritz led the charge for the Bulldogs with a 35. Sophomore Jonathan Spence fired a 36, followed by E.C. Atchison at 37 and Martin Schaefer at 43.

Sikeston's junior varsity scores came from Darius Butler (47), Jason Deere (51), Wayne Guthrie (55) and Zed Hagen (59).

"As we approach the final half of the season, we're seeing a shootout occurring for the number six spot on varsity," said Oetting. "Even the number five spot isn't set in stone."

Sikeston will host Malden and Caruthersville on Thursday before the Sikeston Invitational next Monday.
