Born Sept. 22, 1913, in Somerville, Ala., daughter of the late John P. and Claude Goodson Ponder, she retired as a machine operator for the Florsheim Shoe Company in Chaffee and was later a seamstress for private individuals. A member of the First United Methodist Church for 80 years and United Methodist Women in Chaffee, she was a member of Morley Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 342 and a 50-year member and past worthy matron of Eastern Star Chapter 48. She was also a past district deputy grand matron for B of LF&E Ladies Auxiliary.
On April 22, 1933, she married J H "Dick" Davenport who preceded her in death on May 18, 1968.
Survivors include: one son, Tom Davenport of Chaffee; one daughter, Cheryl Spencer of Denver; three sisters, Merl Carter and Elsie Phillips of Oran and Martha Lohnes of Conway, Ark.; and nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were one daughter, Betty Fadler; and three brothers, Sam G. Ponder, Elbert Ponder and Robert Ponder.
Visitation begins at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, where Eastern Star rites are scheduled for 7 p.m.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Combs officiating.
Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery at Cape Girardeau.
