ESSEX -- Ruby Hampton, 82, died Nov. 23, 2006, at her home.
Born Dec. 6, 1923, in Wooster, Ark., daughter of the late Ben Berry and Nancy Jane Woodard Halcombe, she was a resident of Penermon and a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Grayridge where she held many positions. She was a past member of Eastern Star and Heart Health Coalition.
On Dec. 6, 1941, she married James Willie Hampton who preceded her in death on Oct. 10, 1992.
She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Gladys Marie Dalton; and five brothers, two sisters, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Survivors include: three sons, James F. Hampton of Essex, Tim Hampton of Tupelo, Miss., and Amos Hampton of Sikeston; six daughters and three sons-
in-law, Nancy and Series McCloud, Deborah Evans and Johnnie and Robert Beecham of Memphis, Tenn., Lisa Hampton of Essex and Earnestine and Robert Jones and Geraldine Hampton of Malden; one sister, Ruthalee Gualt of Greenbriar, Ark.; and 25 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. Saturday until time for services at 1 p.m. at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. The Rev. Leroy Williams of Poplar Bluff will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery in Malden.
