SIKESTON -- Dairy Queen took sixth place in the Rookie League of Sikeston Area Youth Baseball this year, finishing with a record of 5-9.
The squad opened the year with three straight losses, but then turned it around and rattled off two wins in a row.
After earning the No. 6 seed in the year-end tournament, they lost to First Midwest Bank in the first round.
"I think we had a fair season," said Dairy Queen coach Jeff Williams. "More than half of our kids got hits about every time they got up. The lower half starting hitting towards the end of the season. If we would've had that at the beginning of the season, we would've been tough to beat."
Michael Gipson was on the pitcher's mound and Ethan Scherer was behind the plate. Hunter Williams was at first, Miranda Fowler was at second, Josh Hampton was at short and Ben Murray played third.
The outfield consisted of Donald Fodge, Jacob Stinnett, Spenser Clark, Hannah Sauceda, Hillary Harris-Green, Kaiden Sloan, and Wyatt Fisher.
Williams made the all-star team, while Fowler and Gipson were both second team all-stars.
"Probably one of the most improved was Spenser Clark," noted Williams. "Pretty much everybody improved as the year went on. Everybody started hitting the ball good. We just had a little bit of fielding problems all year long. We would only lose by one or two runs every game. We hung in there tight, but we would have a bad inning and lose."
