SIKESTON -- Noranda finished up the season with a 3-9 record, taking fifth place in the Junior Babe Ruth League of Sikeston Area Youth Baseball.
"We didn't do real good, but we didn't do too bad this year," said Noranda coach Tim Chappell. "We had a couple of junior legion players on our team that couldn't play in a lot of the games, but we still did okay."
A highlight of the year was beating Market Place in the final game of the regular season to earn the No. 5 seed in the year-end tournament. Noranda went on to lose to US Bank in the first round, 4-3.
The squad was led by catcher Trey Glaus, first baseman Ross Palmer and shortstops Eric Chappell and John Robert Bizzell. Jake Vanpool played second base, Tyler Dame was at third, Danny Coppage was a catcher and Justin Deere was a shortstop. The outfield consisted of Michael Watkins in right, Andy Backfisch in center and Joshua Williams and Brad Coleman in left.
"Tyler Dame really came along as the season went on," explained Chappell. "He hit the ball a lot better. Andy Backfisch did real well, and Justin Deere started hitting the ball. He was just a 13-year-old, but he was playing well at the end of the year."
