Southeast Tremors softball team takes first place in state

The Southeast Tremors.
KIRKSVILLE- The Southeast Tremors, a team of girls from Sikeston and surrounding cities, captured first place in the Missouri ASA 16-and-Under Class B Girls' Fastpitch Tournament on Sunday with a 1-0 victory over the Jefferson City Crush in the finals Sunday.

The Tremors, coached by Ron Brinkmeyer, Kiki Curtis and Kevin Wibbenmeyer, won all five of its games over the weekend to cruise through the winner's bracket to the finals of the double elimination tournament.

The team will advance to the ASA National Tournament in Springfield (Mo.) August 2-8.

In the championship game, the lone run scored in the fifth inning on a walk to pitcher Kristen Ploetze, a sacrifice bunt by Barbara Hobbs, and a run-scoring double over the head of the leftfielder by Allison Blurton.

Ploetze then retired the side in order in the sixth and seventh innings to seal the victory.

For the tournament, Ploetze picked up the win in all five games while recording three shutouts and allowing just three earned runs.

She finished the tournament with 20 consecutive scoreless innings.

The Tremors recorded wins of 8-0 over the Kirksville Katz, 6-3 over the Crush, 4-1 over the Maryville Trojanettes and 5-0 over the Putnam County Raiders.
