Your view: Mayor's comments

Thursday, July 1, 2004

Dear Editor;

I would like to take this opportunity to clarify a misstatement in the June 25th article about the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce Luncheon.

Miner has added 50 new families not 15. I would not want to slight anyone who has decided to call the great City of Miner their home.

I would also like to clear up any misunderstandings one could draw from this article. I believe city governments have an important job in providing citizens with the many services that their tax dollars support. I am an avid supporter of growth and cooperation, in the Sikeston-Miner area; but I cannot support the Sikeston mayor in his announcement. I feel any efforts toward merging two cities should be initiated by the citizens themselves, not by its governing bodies.

Thank you

Mitch Thompson, Mayor

City of Miner
