SIKESTON - A group of friends of Mrs. R.A. McCord gave her a surprise birthday party and handkerchief shower Wednesday afternoon at her home on West Gladys.

SIKESTON - The Young Married Department of the First Baptist Church Sunday School surprised Mr. and Mrs. Carl Heuiser of Dexter with a housewarming last Tuesday evening. The Heuisers recently moved to from Sikeston to rural Dexter.


SIKESTON - Robert A. Dempster, chairman of the board of Planters Bank, announced today that the bank has acquired the property at the corner of South Kingshighway and Kathleen streets.

SIKESTON - Melanie Dame, a 1981 state track qualifier, and Shantal Sparks, who went to the state cross country meet last year, are two of the top seven runners on the Sikeston cross country team this fall.


BENTON - Billy Carter, the outspoken brother of former President Jimmy Carter, will appear in Benton on Sept. 25 as part of a special promotion for Ferrell Mobile Homes in Benton.

SIKESTON - There will be a Kindermusik information meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Kindermusik is a preschool music class for children ages 4-6. Classes will be taught at Cindy Martin's Alphabet Soup Preschool.


SIKESTON - The weight training room in the Sikeston High School Field House would do justice to a university. Athletic Director Charlie Vickery said the weights are available at specific times for use by all high school students. He said the new classes train students how to use the machines. Safety is stressed.
