MOREHOUSE - Miss Tri-County was crowned in Morehouse as part of the community's fall festival. The queen of this year's festival is Laurie Nimmo, 15-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Nimmo of Morehouse. First alternate is Ann Marie Cook, 15-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Cook of Dexter; and second alternate is Cindy Eye, 16-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Black of Oran.

SIKESTON - Members of the 1993 Missouri Delta Medical Center's Hospital Ball Committee are putting the finishing touches on the decorations. The committee transformed the Sikeston National Guard Armory into the tropical island of Bali Hai for Saturday's benefit ball for MDMC. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m., inner is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and dancing follows.


SIKESTON - Four years ago Sikeston Public Schools united forces with the Department of Public Safety in an effort to promote drug awareness. The Drug Abuse Resistance Education program is now as familiar to students as the Sikeston High School bulldog. "The DARE program has been very effective," said Officer Shirley Porter, coordinator. "There have been several incidents where children were approached by strangers and knew what to do."
