The Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to once again be working with the Sikeston Elks Club in sponsoring the 13th Annual Halloween Window Painting Contest, Oct. 20 in Downtown Sikeston.
The theme of the contest is Drug Awareness and Red Ribbon Week. A red ribbon must be displayed on at least one Halloween character to qualify for prizes. Participants must be a not-for-profit youth organization.
Adult supervision is required, but adults are not allowed to paint the windows. Drop cloths or newspaper must be used to prevent paint stains and participants are required to clean up their area when they are done. Participants must use Tempra paint only, absolutely no ladders.
The name of the organization must be written on the window, no individual names. Window assignments will be made by the Chamber of Commerce and painting will be started and completed from 8-10am on Saturday Oct. 20. Participants and sponsors are responsible for cleaning the windows by Nov. 2. Prizes include: $150 for Most Drug Awareness/Red Ribbon Week message, $150 for Most Creative, $150 for Scariest, and $150 for Most Original. Applications are available at the SACC offices and must be returned to the Chamber by 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 12.
Entry into the contest is free.
Over the years our area not of profit groups have created some amazing displays. If you are not participating in the annual Halloween event, be sure and come downtown the afternoon of the 20th to see all the great artwork on our merchant and office windows.
