Wednesday, August 7, 2002

SIKESTON - It is a hectic time at the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce with rodeo right around the corner. Our phones are ringing and people are dropping by for rodeo information as well as information on what to do during rodeo week.

We know our community will roll out the red carpet and welcome visitors with open arms.

One of the many activities during rodeo is the Chamber's Eighth Annual Redneck Barbecue. The barbecue will be held at Malone Park in Downtown Sikeston Saturday, Aug. 10.

The contestants will be there early and cooking will start between 9 and 10 a.m. Judging will start at 1 p.m. with the winner being announced at approximately 3:30 p.m. Come and watch the competition.

There will be a concession stand with barbecue sandwiches, drinks, etc., for sale to the public.

Also we will be hosting our first annual Little Mr. and Miss Baby Back contest for boys and girls ages 1 through 6 years old. The contest will start at 10 a.m. by the pavilion. In addition we will have an apron decorating contest as well as a cookie stacking contest for kids at 1 p.m.

There are many other events taking place downtown that day including the pancake breakfast at the depot, lunch with the rodeo clowns, pony rides, beer garden and live music at Jeremiah's and the pro rodeo display just to name a few. So put on your cowboy boots and join the fun rodeo Saturday at Malone Park.

For more information on rodeo activities call the Chamber at 471-2498 or check our website at www.sikeston.net.
