Born Nov. 26, 1943, in Catron, son of Lillian Hunter King Roberson of Sikeston and the late Joe Otis King, he was a 1961 graduate of Morehouse High School. A U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, he was employed by the Wohl Shoe Company in Sikeston for 16 years and was a truck driver for Delta Express in Cape Girardeau for the past five years. He was a member of Sikeston Eagles Aerie 3319 and had served as sergeant at arms and first vice president for American Legion Post 114 in Sikeston. He was scheduled to be the 2004 Cotton Carnival Parade marshal.
On May 14, 1988, in Sikeston, he married JoAnn Landers who survives of the home.
Survivors in addition to his wife and mother include: two sons, Tim King and Jeff King of Sikeston; one daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Bill Cross of Carterville, Ill.; one stepson, Danny Landers of Canalou; one stepdaughter and son-in-law, Laura and Burdette DeCota of Sikeston; one brother, Joe King of Sikeston; one sister, Karen Suzie Freedman of Caldwell, Texas; three grandsons, Chris King and Bryant DeCota of Sikeston and Justin Cross of Carterville; and four granddaughters, Brittany King, Sydney King and Abbye King of Sikeston and Hanna Cross of Carterville.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Jerry Pennington of Puxico and the Rev. Dewayne Coleman, pastor of the Canalou Baptist Church, will officiate.
The Missouri Military Funeral Honor Guard will conduct military rites at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Jerry Bryant, Nelson Guth, Ron Baldwin, Dennis Pipken, Roger Beck and Arnie Stone.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Herb St. Mary, Gene Stroud and Johnny Kestner.
