Malden sophomore dooms Portageville

PORTAGEVILLE -- Malden sophomore Hillary Hill was on fire Tuesday night, knocking down eight 3-pointers in a 58-38 win over Portageville.

Hill led all scorers with 28 points, handing the Lady Bulldogs their second loss of the season. Behind Hill, Sheleena Stone contributed 10 points for the Lady Wave. For Portageville, Alyson Crafton hit three 3-pointers and scored 14 points. Ashley Brown finished with 10 points and Janil Booker ended with nine.

Portageville (0-2) will host Sikeston on Monday.

CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Sikeston's junior varsity girls basketball team picked up its first win of the season in the Cape Central Tournament on Tuesday.

Nyketia Johnson scored a game-high 16 points, hitting three 3-pointers in a 52-35 win over New Madrid County Central.

Allison Blurton also buried a 3-pointer, finishing with 13 points. Whitney McCray scored 10 points and Robyne Morris contributed nine.

For NMCC, Jessica Green led the charge with 11 points. Channey Williams finished with 10.

Sikeston (1-1) will play the winner of a Poplar Bluff-Cape Central game tonight at 7:30 p.m. Sikeston's varsity team will open the season Dec. 2 at Portageville.
