WILSON CITY - Bessie Beatrice Benford, 90, died Oct. 21, 2003, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born Nov. 13, 1923, in Coahoma County, Miss., daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Fowlkes Peterson, she lived in Missouri for more than 78 years. She was a member of the Ollie Grove Missionary Baptist Church at Wilson City where she served on the Mothers Board.

On Sept. 28, 1930, she married Luther H. Benford who preceded her in death on June 5, 1985.

Survivors include: four sons and three daughters-in-law, George Benford of Pontiac, Mich., Luther and Margaret Benford Jr. of San Antonio, Texas, Moses and Christine Benford and Melvin and Leora Benford of Milwaukee, Wis.; three daughters, Elizabeth Jefferson and Clementine Benford of Muncie, Ind., and Dorothy Caldwell of Indianapolis, Ind.; and 42 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Sparks Funeral Home in Charleston.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ollie Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Melvin Benford and the Rev. Melvin Williams, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston.
