CHAFFEE - Garry Wayne McLard, 37, died at 5:40 a.m. June 26, 2004, at Rockview, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born Aug. 26, 1966, in Kennett, son of Mike McLard of Chaffee and the late Genoa Ann Williams McLard, he was a maintenance worker for the QC Corporation in Cape Girardeau.

While serving as a specialist with the U.S. Army, his work during Just Cause provided responsive support to soldiers in Panama in 1990. During Desert Shield and Desert Storm, he was instrumental in the start-up of briefing teams at the Pentagon in 1991. McLard managed the performance of the graphic illustration team during Operation Desert Storm. His advice and design expertise made the daily Gulf War briefings to the secretary of the Army a success.

On Oct. 26, 2002, he married Leslie Parker who survives of the home.

Survivors in addition to his wife and father include: five stepsons, Collin James, Danny Munn, David Munn, Matthew Munn and Melvin Minks of Chaffee; two stepdaughters, Shashana Ramsey and Jackie Williams of Chaffee; one brother, William Cobb of Slidell, La.; one sister, Crystal Moore of Kennett; and two stepgrandchildren.

One sister and two brothers preceded him in death.

Visitation is from 4 p.m. today until service time at 7:30 p.m. at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee. The Rev. Bob Murray will officiate.

Graveside military rites will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
