KELSO - Theon Lawrence Scherer, 79, died at 3:15 p.m. Sept. 28, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born April 23, 1923, at Kelso to the late Charles Adam and Irene Rose Enderle Scherer, he was a farmer and a member of the St. Augustine Catholic Church. A World War II veteran of the U.S. Army serving in D-Day at Normandy, he was a member of the Scott City Veterans of Foreign War Post 6407.
On Sept. 12, 1951, at Kelso he married Leona Catherine Schwartz, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are: two sons, Paul Scherer and James Scherer of Scott City; three daughters, Marilyn Sievers and Jane Fosse of Jackson; and Carolyn Essner of New Hamburg; one sister, Aurelia Scherer of Kelso; and 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother.
Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City where parish prayers will be recited at 6:30 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso. The Rev. Oliver Clavin will officiate.
Burial will follow in the St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery at Kelso with military graveside rites performed by the Missouri Military Funeral Honors Program.
