Sikeston's Elizabeth Killion managed the only singles win with an 8-3 defeat of Lauren Sulser. Killion and Lindsay Leible teamed up in doubles for the other victory, defeating Allie McGinty and Erika Foley 8-5.
"We played really hard today," said Sikeston head coach Lynne DeWitt. "Elizabeth had an excellent match. She finally hot her confidence in all her shots. Elizabeth and Lindsay had a great doubles match too."
In other singles matches, No. 2 Leible lost 6-8 to Allison Campbell; No. 2 Charlie Rickey lost 2-8 to McGinty; No. 4 Jeri Nichols lost 2-8 to Foley; No. 5 Chelsea Gilliland lost 1-8 to Liz Lafoe; and No. 6 Jamie Davidson lost 0-8 to Brett Ford.
In doubles, Richey/Nichols lost 1-8 to Sulser/Campbell and Gilliland/Davidson lost 0-8 to Lafoe/Ford. Sikeston's junior varsity also lost to Cape Central, falling 0-9.
Sikeston will host Chaffee today at 4 p.m.
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Charleston Lady Bluejays tennis team fell to Carbondale on Tuesday 6-3. Charleston (5-3) got singles victories out of Mindi Leuhmann (8-3 over Emilia Zargham) and KaMiya Sager (8-5 over Laura Williams). The Lady Bluejays also had a doubles victory with Megan Leuhmann and Claire Showmaker teaming up to beat Katie Grace and Escobar.
In other matches, No. 2 Megan Leuhmann lost 6-8 to Emily Maroney; No. 3 Showmaker lost 4-8 to Grace; No. 4 Laura Burton lost 1-8 to Cherise Skoffic and No. 5 Libby Renaud lost 2-8 to Christi Webber.
In doubles, Leuhmann/Sager lost 4-8 to Zargham/Skoffic and Burton/Renaud lost 5-8 to Maroney/Webber.
"We looked real sluggish today," said Charleston head coach Mitch Baker. "We couldn't get through and win the big points."
Charleston did win the junior varsity match 7-0. Winners were Lauren Smith, Kara True and Leslie Hall in singles. In doubles, Christina Brown/Megan Johnson, Jennifer Rolwing/Ali Fox, Mandy Shankle/Ashley Shands and Rebecca Rolwing/Jessie Duenne all won.
