Heat place second in World Series

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The New Hamburg Heat All-Stars recently took second place in the 2002 Babe Ruth 16U Softball World Series in Greenville, North Carolina.

Members of the team from Benton were Sara Essner, Ashley Rockett, Jessica Burnett and Whitney Beggs. Members from New Hamburg were Monica Senciboy, Kelly Essner, Ashley Kern, Dana Essner, coach Mike Senciboy, coach Randy Kern and manager Tom Essner.

Members from Chaffee were Kate Pfefferkorn and Mallory Kiefer.

Scott City's Ashton Phillips and Kelso's Stacy Schwartz were also on the team.

Of the 10 teams in the tournament, Texas took first place, followed by Missouri, California, Washington, Florida, Louisiana, New Jersey, Connecticut, the host team from North Carolina and North Carolina.

Dana Essner, Senciboy and Burnett were all named to the All-Tournament team.

Kelly Essner, Kiefer, Pfefferkorn and Sara Essner all made the All-Defense team, and Schwartz was named among the best utility players.
