Sikeston drops first game in World Series

MATTOON, Ill. - The Sikeston 12-and-under all-star team lost its first game in the Cal Ripken World Series 11-0 to the Illinois champions here on Sunday.

Sikeston fell behind 7-0 in the top of the second inning highlighted by a grand slam by Philip Wetherell of the Illinois squad.

Illinois scored four more runs in the top of the fourth to enforce the 10-run mercy rule. The game was stoppped when Sikeston failed to score in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Sikeston could only muster two hits on the evening off Illinois starter Troy Kistler.

Garrett Limbaugh was the losing pitcher.
