SpeakOut 4/28

Call 471-6636

I see where the Miner board elected a former mayor as mayor pro tem. Didn't she up and quit her position as mayor? How can she hold this position too?

Regardless of her past actions and performance on Miner's Board of Aldermen, Ward 2 voters put Betty Barnes back on the board in April 2002, and her fellow board members supported Mayor Frank Tatum's recommendation of her for the pro tem position and voted her in - that's how.

We live near 61 Highway south of Wal-Mart and our blonde lab has been taken again. He has been fixed, so whoever took him cannot make any money by breeding him. He also has heartworms, which is a life-threatening condition which he is being treated for. He needs his medicine or he will die. This is a very serious condition. Please bring him back, no questions asked. Our phone number is 225-4277. This is the third time he has been taken. Possibly you have taken him one time, but one time too many.

I was calling about the noise disturbance. I sympathize with the person who called about the noise disturbance in Sikeston, boom boxes and all that. Matthews is just as bad. Four-wheelers run up and down the streets all hours of the night, especially when kids are supposed to be in school, from 11 p.m. to midnight. They race up and down the road and these are some of your city officials' children, nephews, and they don't care. They don't understand how other people can live with this. I sympathize with you.

I have advertised many times in the Standard Democrat and it always costs me money. I read the SpeakOut column on April 21 about the big White House in Morehouse. How can they run an ad in SpeakOut and it not cost them anything? Can they run a personal ad or is it just a select few?

The SpeakOut call was not an ad. It was to inform several SpeakOut readers who have called several times inquiring about the status of the property. As the owner said in her call, end of subject.

Isn't it just great when some people find an excuse to compare a person with another person when they can't find a way to end an argument? They always try to say you're like somebody else.
