SIKESTON - In the second War Loan Drive, Scott County purchased, $576,474 in present cash value of bonds, according to incomplete returns received by Stephen A. Barton, county chairman. The total is for cash value, not maturity value, he said.

GIDEON - An election has been called for June 11 to vote on the construction of a sewer system for the city of Gideon.


SIKESTON - William W. Wilkerson, chemistry and physical science teacher at Sikeston High School, will be one of the teachers in a summer workshop at Southeast Missouri State College in Cape Girardeau.

MANCHESTER - Last week, the Sikeston track team's distance runners faced the likes of Poplar Bluff's Arthur Waddle and Washington's Jill Kingbury. Saturday, at the 4A sectionals at Parkway South, competition looks to be fierce again.

SIKESTON - Sikeston's Allegro Music Club recently elected officers. The election took place during National Music Week, which was themed "A Better World Through Music." Past president Donna Taylor read from the club collect. New officers are Tamra Adams, president; Doris Livingston, vice president; Susie Johnson, secretary; and Lisa Colbert, treasurer.


JACKSON - After getting off to a shaky 1-3 start this season, the Sikeston Bulldogs are heating things up at the right time of year. In a preview of Tuesday's district tournament opening round game, the 'Dogs pounded out 24 runs in a doubleheader against Jackson. Sikeston won the opener 15-2 and captured the nightcap 9-2.
