MALDEN - James William "Tater" Eakens, 69, died May 12, 2003, at Three Rivers Healthcare North Campus in Poplar Bluff.
Born March 20, 1934, in Tallapoosa, son of the late Lathie and Nona Kent Eakens, he was a member of Steelworkers Union Local 7686 and the First Southern Baptist Church in Risco. He was a ginner for the Campbell-Kirksey Cotton Gin for 21 years and also worked for Noranda Aluminum in Marston before retiring in 1996.
On May 16, 1953, in Tallapoosa, he married Josilea Mollineaux who preceded him in death on Dec. 2, 1977.
He and Audrey Clayton Davis were married Nov. 10, 1978, in Marston, and she survives of the home.
Also preceding him in death were two sons, Gregory Randall Eakens and Roger Stanley Eakens; one sister, Julie May Eakens; one son-in-law, Jackie Fowler; and one grandson.
Survivors in addition to his wife include: five daughters and four sons-in-law, Deborah and Steve Cummins of Marston, Laura Eakens of Chicago, Ill., Sherri and Lee Ragan and Jamie and Keith Aaron of Malden and Sarah and Paul Hayes of Newport, Ark.; one son, Jeffrey Eakens Davis of Bloomfield; two sisters, Billie Jean Shaw of Auburn Heights, Ill., and Mary Owens of Malden; and 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services were conducted at 10 a.m. today at Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden with the Rev. Dale Shoup officiating.
Burial followed in Memorial Park Cemetery at Malden.
