ORAN - Chaffee's softball team got a lift from its underclassmen on Thursday afternoon in a 15-2 win over Oran.
The Lady Red Devils played six freshman in the game that accounted for 12 of the team's 15 hits.
"Our freshmen had an outstanding game," said Chaffee coach Debbie Lewis. "All the girls stepped up and had a lot of enthusiasm. We were ready to play ball."
Freshman Whitney Horrell improved her personal record to 5-0, allowing two runs over seven innings. She gave up one walk and four hits with two strikeouts.
Kegan Orr led Chaffee's offense, batting 4-for-5 with two doubles and a triple. Mindy Hendrix was 3-for-5 with a double. Casey Guzman was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Horrell and Sarah Dooley were both 2-for-5.
Other hits came from Mallory Kiefer, Brandi Snider and Brittany Bennett.
"It seems like the better pitching we face, the better we hit the ball," said Lewis.
Oran's Teresa Hodges was charged with the loss. Offensively, Amber Seyer was 2-for-3. Lexi Todt and Hodges also had hits.
With the victory, Chaffee improves to 10-2 overall and 4-0 in the conference.
The Lady Red Devils will be back in action on Tuesday, hosting East Prairie in another conference matchup.
