SIKESTON Mr. and Mrs. Bois R. Council of Sikeston are parents of a son born Monday afternoon at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.


MALDEN - The continuous throb of airplane engines and the flash of wings high over Malden has only one meaning these days. Flight training has begun at the Air Force's new basic flying school here.

EAST PRAIRIE - The Mississippi County Board of Education, by a vote of 5 to 1, proposed a Reorganized School District. The proposals would include a part of the East Prairie C-5 School District, east of Highway 77.

MOREHOUSE - After hearing assurance from plant operator Steve Vardell that he would make a wholehearted effort to comply with city ordinances, the Morehouse Board of Alderman voted Monday to renew the city license of the Southeast Missouri Distilleries fuel alcohol plant for six months.


SIKESTON - About 2,000 Shriners will be in Sikeston Saturday for the Spring Missouri Shrine Ceremonial and Parade.

MATTHEWS - In preparation for Mother's Day, area grade schools students made special gifts last week for their mothers. At Matthews Elementary School in Matthews, first grade students made silhouettes of themselves.


SIKESTON - Although they finished fourth in a four-team meet, Sikeston track coach couldn't have been much prouder of his Lady Bulldogs if they had won the SEMO Conference meet. "We had great performances from all of our girls," said coach Gary Williams. "We simply didn't have enough depth to get very far in the scoring."
