Three killed in weekend accidents

WYATT -- Two children were killed in a head-on collision Sunday night.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, at 8:26 p.m. in Mississippi County on Highway 60, seven miles east of Charleston, the accident occurred as westbound motorist Christopher C. Wyland, 50, of Hickman, Ky., crossed over the centerline and struck the vehicle driven by LaTosha A. Yates, 28, of Kevil, Ky., head on.

Yates' passengers, Brittany Renee Tipler, 14, of East Prairie and 1-year-old Everett Shantez Yates, of Kevil were pronounced dead at the scene at 9:05 p.m. by Mississippi County Coroner Terry Parker. They were taken to Williams Funeral Home in Charleston.

Yates was moderately injured while her passengers, Tony Jones, 15, of East Prairie and Brandy I. Jones, 9, of Kevil received serious injuries. They were transported by ambulance to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Wyland sustained moderate injuries and was taken by air ambulance to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. The Patrol said charges against Wyland are pending.

A Scott County man also sustained fatal injuries in a one-vehicle accident early Saturday.

The Patrol reports at 2:30 a.m. Garry W. McLard, 37, of Chaffee was traveling eastbound in Scott County at Route M, half a mile east of Chaffee, when he lost control of his vehicle, ran off the right side of the roadway and overturned several times, ejecting him from the vehicle.

McLard was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:40 a.m. by Scott County Deputy Coroner Jerry Goin. McLard was taken to Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel.
