EAST PRAIRIE - Harold A. Powers, 89, a lifetime farmer and livestock dealer, passed away May 6, 2003, at the East Prairie Nursing Center.
The son of the late Arthur Powers and Myrtle Metheny Powers, he was born Dec. 17, 1913, near East Prairie. He had lived in Mississippi County his entire life, where he was a member of the First Christian Church.
On June 30, 1934, he married the former Norma Mansfield, who preceded him in death on Aug. 22, 1991. Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Jerold Powers and Earl M. "Doc" Powers.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Ruthann and Bob Maxwell of East Prairie; two granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Leanne and Randy Grant of Sikeston and Kelly and Dennis Crabtree of Starkville, Miss.; and one great-granddaughter, Randee Faith Grant of Sikeston. Other survivors include several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew and his wife, Abner M. and Julia Beck of Memphis, Tenn.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday.
Burial will follow in East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Kevin Mainord, Scott Mainord, Bud Russell, John Ponder, Milas Mainord and Les Keene.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Monroe Black, Lanie Black, Leland Maxwell, Harland Maxwell, Gene Ponder, Bill Thurmond, Shelby Dick, Larry Duke, Burke Dodson, Bob Sorrells and Fred Douglas.
