PORTAGEVILLE - Evelyn V. Atwill, 85, died May 5, 2003, at her home.
Born Dec. 16, 1917, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of the late William McKinnley and Roberta Lane Greene, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Portageville, where she served as church treasurer, was a Sunday school teacher and past president of United Methodist Women. She owned and operated Ellington Insurance for many years, was also a member of the Eastern Star, a former city treasurer and an agent for the license bureau.
On Oct. 31, 1936, in Lilbourn, she married Faye O. Atwill who preceded her in death on June 5, 1993.
Survivors include: two sons, Richard "Dick" Atwill of Portageville and Eugene "Mac" McCluskey of Glade Spring, Va.; one daughter, Joyce Evelyn Sawyer of Portageville; three brothers, Lynn Greene of Jonesboro, Ark., Glynn Greene of Poplar Bluff and Don Greene of Fort Foote, Md.; one sister, Betty Calhoun of Deering; and nine grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
One brother, John Greene, also preceded her in death.
Visitation begins at 6 p.m. today at DeLisle Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Leland Butler officiating.
Burial will follow in the Portageville Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Yogi Briggs, Jerry Scherer, Jim Lindley, Norman VanAmburg, George Hobbs and Jim Robards.
