SIKESTON - A Sikeston man is slated to be arraigned at 11 a.m. Tuesday on charges related to the stabbing death of his estranged girlfriend.
Percy Edgar Johnson, 34, is presently being held at the Scott County Jail without bond charged with first degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, first degree assault and felonious restraint for the death of Mary Rudd, 24, of Sikeston.
The crime occurred around 1:15 p.m. Friday at 411 W. Malone Avenue, according to Sikeston Department of Public Safety Director Drew Juden.
Rudd received several stab wounds to the neck during an altercation with Johnson, according to the DPS, and was transported by the South Scott County Ambulance Service to Missouri Delta Medical Center where emergency room personnel pronounced her dead after efforts to resuscitate her failed.
Johnson was pursued on foot by a witness and law enforcement personnel after allegedly fleeing the scene, but was captured soon after by a Scott County deputy and turned over to DPS officers.
DPS reported that Johnson was arrested Thursday for assault and released Friday with a June 6 court date being set, but neither Johnson nor Rudd had a previous history of violence arrests with DPS.
