SIKESTON - Lee Austin Bowman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Bowman, who is a sophomore cadet at Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Va., has been transferred from the Enlisted Reserve Corps of the Army Engineers, to the Army Air Corps.

SIKESTON - A permit for the Tanner Street Church of God to build additions estimated at $60,000, a North Main store building at $20,000 and a building on Center Street at $25,000 helped boost the total value of construction.

PORTAGEVILLE - Between 125 to 150 persons gathered for a community meeting Friday night to discuss the future of students attending school here. According to Lewis Rone, one of the organizers of the public meeting, the purpose was to "take the initiative" because of concerns following the recent decision by the New Madrid County R-1 School Board to relocate Matthews High School students to the New Madrid County Central High School.


SIKESTON - The Sikeston Community Choir, directed by Gordon Beaver, presented its Annual Spring Concert Sunday at the First United Methodist Church.

ORAN - It was a wet Boy Scout Camporee Saturday at the Durwood Dover farm outside Oran. For the 26th year, scouts from across Southeast Missouri gathered to play games and learn skills, including how to assemble tents in record time.


SIKESTON - The Sikeston Community Choir presented its 25th spring concert Sunday. The choir performed classical and modern pieces for an appreciative audiences. Drummers Mike Parker and Larry Bond were among the musicians providing accompaniment for the concert.
