Plane crash

Scott County emergency personnel work to help and injured person after a plane crash Thursday.

Pilot Derek W. Mays, 22, of Dexter, was taken by ambulance to Missouri Delta Medical Center for moderate injuries along with passenger Ryan D. Mouser, 21, of Essex, who received minor injuries, in the ultra-light aircraft crash.

The accident happened at approximately 10:02 a.m. near Scott County Highway 448 in a field behind the Sikeston Dragstrip when Mays aborted a landing attempt and clipped the top of a tree, according to the Scott County Sheriff's Department.
