EAST PRAIRIE - Harley Gene Wheatley, 62, died at 1:15 a.m. May 3, 2003, at his home.

Born May 13, 1940, in New Madrid, son of the late Ed and Marie Thompson Wheatley, he lived in East Prairie most of his life. He was a self-employed mechanic and of the Pentecostal belief.

In 1972, he married Mary Myers who preceded him in death in 1995.

Survivors include: one son, Paul Gene Wheatley of East Prairie; four daughters, Laronza Wheatley of Cuba, Mo., Mary Beth Myers of Sikeston, Sabrina Myers of Charleston and Fayetta Myers of East Prairie; four brothers, John Kirby and George Kirby, Arthur "Bob" Wheatley and William "Bill" Wheatley of East Prairie; five sisters, Lois Coxville of Rival Range, Fla., Cora Moore of Florida, Nancy Hedge and Bonnie Brown of East Prairie and Ruth Burns of Diehlstadt; and 10 grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by five sisters, Laverne Chandler, Francis Hunter, Alleen Wheatley, Dora Shull and Betty Wheatley.

Relatives and friends will assembly at Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday for graveside services. Burl Britt, associate pastor of the Full Gospel Church of East Prairie, will officiate.

McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston is in charge of arrangements.
