SIKESTON - Outstanding student patrol members for 1962-63 honored at the Matthews Elementary PTA meting were: Don Littleton, Stephen Guess, Jimmy Christie, Gary Long, Ronnie Senciboy and Terry Freeland.

SIKESTON - Efforts to dry out Sikeston's Cottonmouth Supercross track for Sunday's inaugural 1983 race were successful, and the event drew about 125 riders - some from as far away as Memphis and St. Louis. Johnathan Steward, who rode to a second place finish in the 12-year-old Novice class, was among the contestants representing the hometown.

NEW MADRID - The New Madrid County Central Eagles held off a four-run fourth inning by the Charleston Blue Jays and rallied for a 5-4 win on Friday afternoon. The Charleston (0-2) rally was sparked by Blake Ledbetter's three-run homer. New Madrid (2-0) had scored a pair of runs in bottom of third inning on RBI singles by Scott Tarrants and Matt Gilmer. The Eagles tied the game with two more runs in the fifth on an RBI single by Tarrants and RBI double by Gilmer.
