SIKESTON - The P.C. Editor says: We salute the Lair Furniture Company on the attainment of its 44th anniversary. Mr. F.D. Lair Sr. has built by sticking strictly to business and giving service at the finest furniture establishment between Memphis and St. Louis. The store grows in popularity and usefulness with each year.

SIKESTON - The watermelon shipping season will close here Saturday. Representatives of the Wesco Food Corporation, buyers of the melons, reported today that approximately 50 cars would leave the Missouri-Pacific tracks in Sikeston before the activities cease. The Sikeston stay ends the buying season for them after the start several months ago in Florida. The price of $300 to $350 a car was above that of last year.

SIKESTON - William Darrell Alcorn, son of Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Alcorn of Sikeston, will receive his bachelor degree in business administration on the "Ole Miss" campus in Oxford, Miss., at 5 p.m. Aug. 19.

SIKESTON - The Planning and Zoning Commission will meet tonight at 7:30 p.m. The agenda will include Pecan Grove annexation; the rezoning of lots in the McCoy and Tanner Fourth Addition from "B" two-family to "A" single family.

SIKESTON - Ron Mitchell and his wife, Brenda, recently moved their insurance office to a new location at 764 N. Main St. Mitchell has been in business locally for 12 year.

SIKESTON - Construction activities are in full progress in the emergency room at Missouri Delta Medical Center. After the renovation, the emergency room will have an enlarge triage area, an expanded patient waiting room and a new admission area.
