DEXTER -- Lelia Backfisch, 92, died Jan. 18, 2008, at the Golden Living Center.
Born on Oct. 12, 1915, in Dexter, daughter of the late Fred and Minnie P. Dietsch Sauer, she had been a store clerk at Weber's Ben Franklin Store and was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dexter.
On March 2, 1946, in Dexter, she married George Henry Backfisch who preceded her in death on June 27, 1982.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by one brother, Albert Sauer; and five sisters, Theresia Riechert, Margaret Olliges, Peggy Bower, Helen Wickham and Anna May Guethle.
Survivors include: three sons, James Backfisch of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., and Mike Backfisch and Don Backfisch of Dexter; one daughter, Frances Montgomery of Dexter; two sisters, Martha Guethle of Dexter and Benetta Svoboda of Avenely, N.J.; and seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dexter with the Rev. David Dohogne officiating.
Burial will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
