BLOOMFIELD - Thomas B. Stroup of Bloomfield became the county extension agent of Scott County last Friday upon approval by the Farm Bureau committee.

SIKESTON - Two Sikeston residents were among eight members elected to the Scott County Extension Council. In Sikeston's District Four, Vernon Shelton and W.A. Beggs were elected to the council, each receiving 22 votes.

SIKESTON - For many, a college education is considered a must, but it can be combined with dreams of traveling to distant places, as a student from Sikeston found out. Jennifer Conn, daughter of Terry and Bonnie Conn, 207 Salcedo Road, left Thursday to begin a journey across the Atlantic Ocean to Leysin, Switzerland, where she will study at the American College of Switzerland.


EAST PRAIRIE - "They really control the tempo of the game," East Prairie basketball coach Bud Hendrix said of Oak Ridge. "We ran ourselves to death trying to catch up with them." Nevertheless, East Prairie won its fourth straight conference game by beating Oak Ridge 48-45 Tuesday.

SIKESTON - For years the Sikeston community has heard promises of a new animal shelter. Now the Sikeston Bootheel Humane Society is making good on its word. Board members assure the community the new building, to be located on the corner of Brown Spur (BB Highway) and Compress roads, will be up this year.


NEW MADRID - Lennies McFerren and his NMCC Eagles have slapped together an incredible streak, winning six consecutive after falling into a 0-6 hole at the beginning of the season.
