Born Feb. 4, 1909, in Piedmont, son of the late William Wesley and Mattie Marie Alton Grimes, he lived in Mississippi County most of his life and was a retired carpenter. He was a member of the New Beginnings Church in East Prairie.
On July 3, 1935, he married Iva Mae McCarty Grimes who preceded him in death on Sept. 6, 1991.
Survivors include: two daughters, Ruby Bain of East Prairie and Ella Mae Johnson of Festus; two nephews, whom he raised, John Joe Aycock of Charleston and Bill Aycock of East Prairie; two sisters-in-law, Louise Johnson of Charleston and Annie Ruth Countess of East Prairie; and 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
One grandson, Mike Dillion, also preceded him in death.
Visitation begins at 5 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday with Burl Britt, officiating.
Burial will follow in East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Rick Dillion, Buddy Bain, Jason Aycock, Billy Aycock, Daniel Aycock and Charlie Aycock.
