SIKESTON - On Wednesday evening, June 7, in St. Mary's Chapel of the Washington Cathedral, Washington, D.C., Miss Mary Louise Montgomery, the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M.E. Montgomery of Sikeston, became the bride of Ensign Allen Starrett Waters, U.S. Navy, of Malden.

BENTON - The Scott County Health Department has been notified by the U.S. Public Heath Service that Sikeston has been placed on the nationwide milk sanitation honor roll. Sikeston is one of the only eight cities in Missouri which attained the honor.

PORTAGEVILLE - Following the annexation of land by the city of Portageville placing the town into two school districts, a petition has been sent to the Missouri Department of Education seeking a change in the school district boundaries.

SIKESTON - Capt. Drew Juden of the Sikeston Department of Public Safety Fire Division demonstrated what makes Fourth of July fireworks fun and sometimes dangerous. Taking part were Devon Clark, 11; Kenya Morrison, 6, and Alicia Ross, 9. In addition to the misuse of fireworks, Juden also stressed recent dry weather and limited staffing as immediate concerns for the upcoming holiday.

VANDUSER - The winner of the Littlest Mister contest was recently named during the Vanduser's Survivors Day celebration. Austin Hunter, 3, son of Christian and Amanda Hunter of Sikeston, won the pageant. First runner-up was Joel Hargrove, 3, son of Lonnie and Lisa Hargrove of Vanduser. Second runner-up was Taylor Bryan, 3, son of Michael and Beth Bryan, also of Sikeston.
