SIKESTON - A Sikeston woman will be arraigned Tuesday on second degree murder charges for stabbing her estranged boyfriend.

Stephanie Miles, 28, is being held at the Scott County Jail without bond for the fatal stabbing of Sherman Baker, 34, of Sikeston. Baker apparently died from a single stab wound to the chest received during an altercation with Miles at 1:30 a.m. Friday, according to the Department of Public Safety.

After being stabbed, Baker was taken by friends to Missouri Delta Medical Center where emergency room personnel pronounced him dead after resuscitation efforts failed.

DPS determined by interviews with witnesses that Miles was assaulted by Baker and that he pushed her into a heating stove during an argument. When Baker was outside, Miles reportedly got a knife from the kitchen, then met Baker at the front door where the fatal wound was delivered.

Miles and Baker, who have three children together, had a history of domestic violence dating back several years, according to DPS. Several reports were filed by Miles as a victim. Some of the complaints resulted in warrants for assault against Baker. An Ex Parte order was filed in October 2002 by Miles against Baker but was dismissed by her later that month.
