The Sikeston boys team defeated the Tigers 77-67 while the Lady Bulldogs lost to Cape Central 100-42.
The weather was cold and windy so Sikeston head coach Jerry Dement said the distances and times weren't very impressive. But he said it was a good tuneup for the big 50-team Meet of the South at Murray State University on Saturday.
Field events are scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. while the running events will be at 11:30 a.m.
"This meet was just a jump-off for the big meet this weekend," said Dement. "We didn't run all of our events strong and neither did Cape so it's hard to put much stock in that. They had a lot of injuries and we wanted to make sure we were ready for Saturday."
Sikeston's boys placed first in 11 different events, including three of the four relays.
Sophomore Felante Larry had the best day, taking first in the 100 meter dash, the long jump and running on the 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 meter relay teams.
Tyler Woodson took first in the 110 meter high hurdles. Dale Ham took first in the 1600 meter run.
Devante Larry won the 300 meter hurdles. Keena Hatcher took first in the 200 meter dash while also running on the 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 meter relay teams.
Andy Croxford took first in the shot put. Ryan Gibson took first in the pole vault.
The winning 4 x 400 meter relay team was comprised of D. Larry, Tori Rose, Thomas Elery and John Wiley.
On the girls side, Sikeston only had three first place finishers. Jennifer Medlin won the 1600 meter run, Paige Kaiser won the pole vault and Rachael Vining won the triple jump.
