Netters slam Chaffee

SIKESTON -- Sikeston's tennis team defeated a much-improved Chaffee team 8-1 on Wednesday, improving to 5-4 on the season.

"We played very good today," said Sikeston coach Lynne DeWitt. "We show signs of improvement every game."

In varsity singles, Elizabeth Killion defeated Chaffee's Kate Pfefferkorn 8-2 in the top slot.

At No. 2, Lindsay Leible handled Chaffee's Brittney Bennett 8-3. In the third spot, Charlie Richey was defeated by Chaffee's Nicole Poe, 8-1.

At No. 4, Jeri Nichols defeated Shannon Hampton 8-4. Chelsea Gilliland shut out Chaffee's Casey Guzman in the fifth spot. At No. 6, Jamie Davidson cruised past Shelby Rice 8-1.

In varsity doubles, Killion and Leible defeated Pfefferkorn and Bennett 8-2. Richey and Nichols beat Poe and Hampton 8-4, then Gilliland and Davidson blanked Guzman and Rice 8-0.
