ANNISTON - Robert Eugene Wheatley, 68, died at 4 p.m. June 23, 2004, at his residence.
Born Aug. 17, 1935, in New Madrid County, son of the late Robert "Red Bob" and Beatrice Redfering Wheatley, he was a retired welder. He had lived most of his life in Mississippi County and was a member of the Victory Baptist Church in East Prairie.
On Sept. 21, 1956, in Union City, Tenn., he married Anna Bernice Poyner Wheatley who preceded him in death on April 12, 2004.
Survivors include: four sons, Darrell Wheatley of Bertrand and Doyle Wheatley, Richard Wheatley and David Wheatley of East Prairie; three daughters, Diane Cobb of Sikeston, Janet Williams of East Prairie and Charlotte Morris of Parma; three brothers, Claude Wheatley of Memphis, Tenn., Harry Tucker of Lowell, Ind., and Raymond Wheatley of Wappapello; one sister, Pansy Wolverton of Momence, Ind.; and 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
One brother, William Wheatley and one sister, Mary Letta Easley, also preceded him in death.
Visitation begins at 6 p.m. Saturday at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie, where services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday. Steve Johnson will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Anniston Cemetery.
