SIKESTON -- The Sikeston seventh grade football team ended their inaugural season with a bang Thursday afternoon, pounding the Cape Central eighth grade "B" team 30-0.
Only one half was played but the Bulldogs wasted no time getting into the end zone as Darien Boyd scored on a 40-yard touchdown run early in the first quarter giving Sikeston a 6-0 lead.
A short time later, Markeith Bratcher scored on a 30-yard touchdown run and Boyd added the two-point conversion, putting Sikeston up 14-0.
Boyd got in the scoring column again when he caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Allen Dirickson. After Bratcher ran in the two-point conversion, Sikeston led 22-0.
Sikeston ended the scoring when Tyler Neal sprinted 70 yards for the score on his only carry of the game. Boyd once again added the two-point conversion to end the scoring.
Bratcher finished the day with 105 yards on just four carries and Boyd ran 46 yards on only two carries.
While the Sikeston offense was clicking, so was the defense as they never allowed Cape Central to put together a threat. The seventh grade finished the season with three shutouts.
With the win, the Bulldogs finish their season at 3-2.
The Sikeston eighth grade team didn't fare as well as their seventh grade counterparts, falling 36-8 to Cape Central.
Sikeston grabbed the early lead when Eldridge Grissom raced 55 yards for the score on the Bulldogs' first possession of the game. Gibson then added the two-point conversion and Sikeston had an early 8-0 lead.
That would be all Sikeston would get as Cape Central dominated the rest of the game.
With the loss, the Sikeston eighth graders end their season at 1-5. The Sikeston freshman team will host Cape Central Saturday at 10 a.m.
