SIKESTON - Mrs. George Lile has received a letter from her son, Sgt. George Lile Jr., the first time she heard from him in seven months. He has been overseas two years.


SIKESTON - Miss Patsy Ruth Heath and Miss Betty Wayne Cummins will leave next Wednesday to attend the fourth session of Missouri's Girls State.

CHARLESTON - Mississippi County's pride is showing these days. A trip to Charleston or East Prairie produces the view of a billboard stating "Charleston, Mo., Home of Our Next Gov. Warren E. Hearnes." The sign is a service of C.I. Lutz to his hometown candidate.

SIKESTON - Recommendations to establish speed limit signs near city limits to govern speeds on non-posted streets in the city and to post no outlet signs on two dead end streets were among items discussed by the city's Traffic Committee Wednesday night.

SIKESTON - Alan Lancaster of Sikeston won a new mountain bike donated by Kmart, after entering a drawing held by Sikeston Trade and Tourism in affiliation with the Chamber of Commerce at the recent Junefest. The bike was given away to bring people from other communities into the area.


VANDUSER - The winner of the littlest Miss contest was recently crowned at Vanduser's Survivors Day celebration. Codie Lancaster, 3, daughter of Avis Lancaster of Oran and Steven Tingstrom, won the crown. First runner-up was Courtney Drew, 2, daughter of Jeff and Tressie Drew of Canalou and second runner-up was Jordi Ferrell, 3, daughter of Buzz and Shori Ferrell of Sikeston.
